Liverpool have made an initial offer of £40 million for Sporting Lisbon ace Bruno Fernandes according to reports in Italy.

Italian tabloid Correio da Manhaclaims that the Reds made the formal bid this week as they look to snap the Portugal international.

Fernandes is one of the hottest talents in Europe following his impressive performances last seasin. He scored 20 goals and made 13 assists in the League helping Sporting Lisbon win the Portuguese cup.

Liverpool have lacked a proper creative midfielder since the departure of Coutinho to Barcelona in 2018 and Fernandes is viewed as the perfect fit for the rule. He would play alongside captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho next season which is the plan by Jurgen Klopp.

There had been rumours that Sporting Lisbon want £80 million for the player but it looks like no team is willing to pay such huge fees for the 24year old.

Liverpool face a race for his signature as the likes of Manchester United are in deep negotiations with both players and clubs.

The Red Devil’s have been speculated to be the favourite for the player as they are keen to rebuild this summer. United have a huge budget believed to be around £200 million with the club looking to buy 5 players in different positions.

The club have also been linked with other players such as Aaron Wan-Bissaka of Crystal Palace and Kalidou Koulibaly of Napoli.

Meanwhile Liverpool are also thought to be in advanced talks with Lille forward Nicolas Pepe on a deal worth £70million. The Reds have also been linked with Olympique Lyon midfielder Nabil Fekir.

It remains to be seen how this transfer works out but it looks likely that Fernandes would end in the EPL this summer.
