There had been doubts over his availability for the visit of the Magpies to Anfield on Saturday afternoon after he missed training this week but Liverpool manager JurgenKlopp has cleared those doubts by telling reporters that the Portugal attacker is fit to take his place in the squad for the home game against Newcastle United.

Liverpool attacker Jota has been in good form for the Merseyside giants in his debut season at the club. He has scored 12 goals in 26 games for the Reds this season which is not a bad return for a player not guaranteed a place in the starting XI.

Portugal international Jota signed for the Reds at the start of the season after Liverpool agreed a deal worth around £45m including £4m in add-ons. He has eight goals in 15 games in the Premier League.

Jota has not scored in any of his last four appearances for Liverpool since the Portugal national team player scored twice when he came off the bench against the Gunners in a league game at the start of the month. His brace helped the Reds to a 3-0 away win over the Gunners.

Liverpool will have to be wary of an in-form Newcastle United side that has risen to the occasion after they were threatened by Fulham at the bottom of the table. The Magpies have picked up seven points from the last three games in the league and that run has seen them move eight points clear of Fulham in third and final relegation zone.

For Liverpool, a win at home to the Magpies is almost non-negotiable if they want to play Champions League football next season. They are in seventh place but are significantly just two points off Chelsea in fourth place at the moment. The Reds will secure fourth place with a win over Newcastle United until Chelsea play home team West Ham United later on Saturday. West Ham United are in fifth place and on the same points as Chelsea.
